What you need to know about African safaris

What gear should I need to go on a South African safari in summer?
a LARGE water bottle!
Insect repellent
No dark clothes, it is hot as hell in day time, but nice and cool at night.
Tent, depends if you are going to sleep under the stars or in guest houses.
Food-Try ours: BILTONG its awesome!
last but not least, have fun SA is a BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!
If you going to visit one of the private reserves then everything is provided for you – food and the vehicle and rangers. They do usually have binoculars that can be shared but its handy to have your own pair. You will want a good camera plus spare memory card (if you not able to download to a laptop). Insect repellent, sun hat & sun cream, sun glasses. Clothing should be neutral colours (no bright reds or other colours). Have something warm for the early evening and mornings as it can get nippy. You will want decent walking shoes. Handy to have a mammal / bird book – but not essential. And dont forget your swimming costume if you know you at a place where there is a pool.
Sleeping bag
toilet paper
INSECT SPRAY
Antimalarial drugs
Environmental friendly soaps and washes
Flashlight/torch
Camera
Swim Suit
Towel
Summer in South Africa is generally hot and humid. Comfort and practicality are the first priority for safari gear. Khaki, brown, cream and dark green are the best clothing colors to choose as they blend in with the bush. You have no need of dinner clothing as most game lodges are relatively casual. Pack long sleeved shirts and trousers as well as shorts. Don’t forget a wide brimmed hat, sunblock and swimwear. Take malaria precautions and spray anti-mosquito on exposed skin as this is a high risk in the summer.
What African cities would you recommend for me to visit?
africa is a beautiful country and if had the money and the time i would visit the whole continent but now most of the muslim countries are not safe for traveling coz of the revolution … you can visit kenya or madagascar and south africa … i love these countries more!!!
Mombasa in Kenya is an old city…Antananarivo capital of Madagascar….Cape Town in South Africa and Darees Salam in Tanzania!!
hope this helps
What country is the best to have an African safari experience?
It’s difficult to say because each country offers such a unique selling proposition. For me the main contenders are south africa ,kenya , zambia, botswana and namibia:South africa superb infrastructure worl class lodges roads and a very conservation minded tourist industry . Kruger national park the only place where one can see the black and white rhino roaming freely , crime however is a concern:Kenya masai mara NP -home the greatest annual migration of big game inthe world, amboseli- another good park.Park’s however can be overcrowde with other tourists;zambia, probably africa’s best secret,South Luangwa National park best place for walking safari and best place to see the secretive leopard.Kafue NationalPark , a huge wilderness the size of switzerland largely in pristine condition and plenty of largely unexplored areas wide of variety of antelopes.Visits to these two national parks can be conbined eith visit to victoria falls ‘ largest curtain of falling water in the world and leading adventure detination.Botswana the chobe national park home to more than 60,000 elephants.Moremi game reserve bird lovers dream, okavango delta , there are fey other places un the world where one can expirience the benefit of big game encounters in a riverine environment a true ecological wonder. Be warned however theat Botswana is expensive because agovernment has opted for low volume high cost tourism for minimal impact tourism- a superb destination nonethe less.Namibia is growing in leaps and bounds as a safari holiday destination.no visit to this country would be complete without a visist to the etosha national park with it’s desert adapted and diverse, a namibia is a vast thinly populated country almost unlimited wide open spaces.exellnt infrastructure makes it ideal for self drive n camping and fly in safaris.
Looking for a safe country in Africa to visit?
Kenya is pretty safe. The most dangerous part of the country is Nairobi, and that’s only because theft is common. Watch yourself and don’t go out at night in the cities and you will be fine.

I am a 23-year-old white female and I spent a few months there. I stayed in Mombasa and had no trouble getting around on my own. I took trips up and down the coast (to Lamu and Diani, both highly recommended) with another girl my age and we always felt secure. I also spent time in Nakuru and never felt unsafe on my own, but I never went out after dark.

There are plenty of safaris in Kenya. I suggest going with a company that combines the Maasai Mara with Lake Nakuru – a few days should be enough and would cost less than $500/person if you pick the right company.

It’s harder to meet people in Nairobi, in my experience, since it’s a big city and you will be a target. In my own personal experience, people on the coast are easier to get to know – life moves at a slower pace out there, and the beaches are beautiful. If I go back, I will definitely spend more time in Lamu – well worth the trip.
