Top 5 Things To Do In East Africa:

At the very heart of the continent, East Africa, you have Africa’s greatest and most famous wildlife reserve, the unforgettable Serengeti and Maasai Mara where millions of wildlife roam free much as they have for centuries. East Africa is home to a huge variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhinoceros, the silverback mountain gorilla, chimpanzee, red colobus monkey, shoebill stork, whale-sharks and bottlenose dolphins. This part of Africa has the biggest and best that the continent has to offer. The epic snow-capped volcano Mount Kilimanjaro and the Ngorongoro Crater – the world’s only intact crater where one can observe the “Big Five”. East Africa is also the source of the Great Nile and home to the romantic spice isles of Zanzibar.

But there is so much more to this – Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda are blessed with natural treasures. Indeed no other place in the world can boast of such beauty in a land preserved with the famous and the undiscovered, yet unlike much of the rest of the world, unspoiled by commercialism. Accommodations are varied, from comfortable lodges to award-winning private tented camps, treetop lodges and the most exclusive beach resorts in the world.

There is much to see and do for anyone who wishes to visit this Garden of Eden – anyone intent on an adventure of a lifetime should visit East Africa. One can do as much or as little as one likes – relax amidst beautiful natural surroundings be it on safari or on a spice island. Age is not a criteria – all that is needed is a sense of adventure.

Make East Africa your next holiday destination. Whether you are looking for an exciting family holiday, a blissful honeymoon or an adventure-packed holiday with friends (perhaps a Kilimanjaro trek challenge to raise funds for a needy cause or your favourite charity?) or looking to mark a special occasion – a big birthday or anniversary, or simply seeking adventure in its purest and most natural form, East Africa is the answer to it all. Aim 4 Africa has arranged weddings and honeymoons on safari and in Zanzibar, several anniversaries (including 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries!) and a number of 80th birthday adventures in East Africa.

Aim 4 Africa organises bespoke holidays to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda. Visit www.aim4africa.com or telephone +44 114 255 2533 for more information.

The Boers in East Africa

The Boers in East Africa

$168

The end of the Anglo-Boer War in May 1902 left the Boers (Afrikaners) defeated and bitter in a ravaged land. Poverty and disillusionment spurred many to leave the post-war British-administered South Africa. This book studies one group of emigres who trekked northward to German East Africa and British East Africa. The author relies heavily on primary sources written in both Dutch and Afrikaans to describe the experiences of the Boers in East Africa. The literature dealing with the Afrikaners documents a people known for their independent insistence upon their language and culture, for their territorial sovereignty established in southern Africa, and for their characteristic religiosity and reliance on Old Testament-based Calvinism. Large numbers of Boers would not or could not adjust to living under an administration with whom they had been at war, and those who tried did not receive much support. As one eyewitness wrote, Not much was needed to stimulate the desire to trek. And so the Afrikaner Diaspora began.
