Mt. Kilimanjaro (Marangu Route) - 7 Days - RW

Day 01: Nairobi - Arusha
0800hrs. Depart for Arusha aboard the shuttle bus, arriving in
time for lunch. Spend the afternoon organizing any gear you require
for the trek. Lunch and dinner at extra cost. Overnight at an
Arusha budget hotel on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 02: Arusha - Mandara
After breakfast, drive to Moshi then on to Marangu Park Gate,
the set off point for your three hour hike to Mandara hut in which
you cover 9km. Here, we are at 2,774m above sea level.
Day 03: Mandara - Horombo
Begin your trek to Horombo hut in an average hiking time of 8
hours. Lunch enroute. There are good views of Mawenzi and Kibo
peaks in clear weather. Dinner and overnight at the hut, attitude
3,761m.
Day 04: Horombo - Kibo
After breakfast, hike 13km to Kibo hut, 4,732m above sea level
in an average hiking time of 6 hours. You will now encounter spectacular
mountain vegetation like lobelia, giant cactus and groundsel.
Meals and overnight at the hut.
Day 05: Kibo – Horombo- Uhuru peak
Wake up to a pre-dawn attempt of the summit. It takes five hours
to Gilman’s, 5,681m above sea level. From Gilman’s
it takes 1½ hours to Uhuru peak 5,896m. Descend to Horombo
for dinner and overnight.
Day 06: Horombo - Arusha
Descent is rapid. After breakfast, walk down to Marangu park gate
for a transfer to your Arusha hotel for overnight. Dinner at extra
cost.
Day 07: Arusha - Nairobi
After breakfast, depart for Nairobi on the morning or afternoon
shuttle departing 0800hrs or 1400hrs arriving at 1300hrs. or 1830hrs
respectively.
Kilimanjaro via Umbwe Route - 8 Days - RW 778
Day 01: Nairobi - Arusha
0800hrs.Depart Nairobi for Arusha via Namanga border town for
immigration formalities. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Lunch
and dinner at extra cost. Overnight at an Arusha budget class
hotel on bed and breakfast basis
Day 02: Arusha - Lava Caves
After breakfast, transfer to the Marangu Park Gate then on to
Umbwe village to begin the trek. Hike for 4 hours through the
rainforest to camp at the caves 2,800m above sea level.
Day 03: Lava Caves – Barranco
After breakfast, continue ascent along a sharp ridge giving a
distinct high mountain feeling then onto the Moorland camp, arriving
by mid afternoon. Overnight at Barranco hut campsite, altitude
3,900m.
Day 04: Barranco - Arrow Glacier
A four hour walk past enormous breach walls to camp at the foot
of the Arrow Glacier. A leisurely afternoon and evening, acclimatizing
at 4,900m and watching the sunset behind Mt. Meru.
Day 05: Arrow Glacier - Kilimanjaro Crater
Rim
Climbing the same steep walls and scrambling up the creep and
across the frozen lava on the tottering wall. We camp on the stunning
crater rim of Kilimanjaro.
Day 06: Kilimanjaro Crater Rim - Horombo
You hike up to the summit Uhuru peak, 5,896m. Descend via Gilman’s
point and Kibo hut to Horombo for dinner and overnight at the
hut, altitude 3,760m
Day 07: Horombo - Arusha
After breakfast, descend to the Marangu Park Gate via Mandara.
You will be transferred to Arusha for overnight. Dinner on own.
Day 08: Arusha - Nairobi
After breakfast, depart for Nairobi on the morning or afternoon
shuttle departing 0800hrs or 1400hrs arriving at 1300hrs. or 1830hrs
respectively.
